Additions Introduced to Biotronik's PTA Balloon Product Line

October 2, 2013—Biotronik, Inc. (Lake Oswego, OR) announced the launch of an extension of its lower limb portfolio. The company's Passeo-35, which is a 0.035-inch over-the-wire (OTW) percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) balloon, is now available in additional lengths of up to 200 mm.

With balloon lengths of up to 200 mm and diameters of 3 to 7 mm, the Passeo-35 offers physicians the potential to dilate longer disease segments in lower limb vessels with fewer balloon inflations, which may reduce potential barotrauma caused by multiple inflations and shorten procedure times. The Passeo-35 features an extremely low 7-mm x 200-mm profile, which allows for balloon compatibility with a 5-F introducer sheath.

Biotronik also launched the Passeo-35 HP high-pressure PTA balloon, which is designed for arteriovenous dialysis fistulae application. The device treats vessel segments that require high-pressure dilatation to efface resistant, often fibrotic stenoses that are commonly encountered in arteriovenous-access fistulas and grafts.

According to the company, the Passeo-35 HP is designed to deliver high-rated burst pressures of up to 27 atm with uncompromised balloon flexibility. The device uses a conformable and highly durable balloon material that minimizes the risk of vessel straightening but has the strength to dilate resistant lesions. Passeo-35 HP is available in diameters of 3 to 12 mm and in balloon lengths of 20 to100 mm, according to Biotronik.
