Argon Medical Launches the OptionElite Retrievable IVC Filter
April 4, 2013—Argon Medical Devices, Inc. (Plano, TX) announced the launch of the OptionElite retrievable inferior vena cava (IVC) filter for the prevention of recurrent pulmonary embolism. The OptionElite, which is designed by Rex Medical, LP (Conshohocken, PA), is enhanced from the preceding Option device for greater ease of delivery and retrievability.
According to Argon Medical, OptionElite's enhanced retention anchor pattern provides stability and reduced retrieval force while preventing migration and reducing the risk of penetration. The apex design has an increased capture zone for ease of snaring. The low-profile IVC filter delivery system (6.5-F outer diameter, 5-F inner diameter) features a spiral sheath that has been reinforced for improved kink resistance and pushability.
David W. Trost, MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York, New York, commented on the device in the company's press release. Dr. Trost stated, “I have used Option for many years. At Weill Cornell, we had the opportunity to participate in the OptionElite evaluation and found the device to be just as safe and stable as the Option, with no migrations and significantly easier to retrieve.”
