CereVasc Appoints Dr. Adel Malek Chief Medical Officer

March 28, 2023—CereVasc, Inc., a privately held, clinical-stage, medical device company developing minimally invasive treatments for neurological diseases, announced that Adel Malek, MD, has been named as the company's Chief Medical Officer.

CereVasc stated that this new appointment aims to accelerate development and clinical strategy of the company's eShunt system for the endovascular treatment of communicating hydrocephalus. The company noted that the investigational eShunt system includes an endovascularly implantable cerebral spinal fluid shunt and delivery components that are designed to treat communicating hydrocephalus without invasive surgery.

As detailed in the company's press release, Dr. Malek is a co-inventor of the eShunt device with Carl Heilman, MD. Dr. Malek is Chief of Neurovascular Surgery and Director of the Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Division in the Department of Neurosurgery at Tufts Medical Center and Professor of Neurosurgery at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Heilman is Neurosurgeon-in-Chief and Chairman of Neurosurgery at Tufts Medical Center.
