Codman Neuro Acquires Pulsar Vascular

December 7, 2016—Codman Neuro announced the acquisition of Pulsar Vascular Inc., a privately held company with technology for the neurovascular treatment of complex aneurysms. Codman Neuro's affiliate, DePuy Synthes Products, Inc., is the acquiring entity. Codman Neuro and DePuy Synthes Products are part of the Johnson & Johnson family of medical devices companies.

According to Codman Neuro, Pulsar Vascular's PulseRider is a minimally invasive, self-expanding nitinol implant that is used to bridge the neck of cerebral aneurysms during treatment of unruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms originating on or near a bifurcation. The device's ‘saddle’ shape stent leaves minimal metal in the parent artery, enabling easy access to the aneurysm for coiling while maintaining support.

The PulseRider device received CE Mark approval in Europe in late 2013 and is commercially available in nine countries. Codman Neuro was previously the exclusive distributor of Pulsar Vascular’s technology in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

In the United States, Pulsar Vascular has completed an investigational device exemption clinical trial and awaits humanitarian device exemption approval.

The company advised that the acquisition expands and complements Codman Neuro's portfolio of products for hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
