Cook Medical Receives CE Mark for New Zilver PTX Delivery System

March 16, 2015—Cook Medical has announced that it has received CE Mark approval for a new rotating thumbwheel deployment system for the Zilver PTX drug-eluting peripheral stent. Additionally, 120-mm Zilver PTX stents are now available, and all lengths on the new delivery system are now CE Marked with a 24-month shelf life.

The thumbwheel design features an ergonomic handle that facilitates single-handed deployment for Zilver PTX, a drug-eluting stent for the superficial femoral artery. The new delivery system is now available for purchase in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Italy.

“Based on my own experience, I’ve found that Cook’s new Zilver PTX deployment system has overcome the challenges associated with the previous system. The new thumbwheel system allows for greater control and accuracy, making it significantly easier for me to deploy the Zilver PTX stent,” stated Andrew Holden, MD, in the company’s press release. Dr. Holden is Director of Interventional Services at Auckland City Hospital and Associate Professor of Radiology at Auckland University School of Medicine in Auckland, New Zealand. A case video showing Dr. Holden using the new system to deploy Zilver PTX is available online.
