Gore Gains Approval for New Molding & Occlusion Balloon in US, Japan, and Europe

August 23, 2018—W. L. Gore & Associates announced the receipt of marketing approvals and clearances in the United States, Japan, and Europe for its Gore Molding & Occlusion Balloon.

The company describes the device as a compliant polyurethane balloon catheter designed to assist in the expansion of self-expanding stent grafts or temporarily occlude large-diameter vessels, with the goal of obviating the need for multiple molding and occlusion balloons.

The Gore Molding & Occlusion Balloon is available in a 90-cm length and compatible with a 180-cm guidewire. Among the features of the device are a proven radial expansion force across the range of endovascular aneurysm repair device sizes, which enables consistent seating and sealing, and potentially reduced procedural time and risk of type I endoleak, the company noted.
