Interventional Systems’ Micromate Cleared for Use With CT Guidance

October 19, 2023—Interventional Systems announced that the company’s Micromate needle-based intervention robotic system has been granted a new FDA 510(k) clearance for percutaneous procedures using CT optical navigation, such as biopsies and ablations, to diagnose and treat conditions in the chest, abdomen, and musculoskeletal structures.

Micromate has been available in the United States since 2021 for any percutaneous needle intervention performed under live imaging using cone-beam CT, fluoro CT, or a fluoroscope. The miniature robot was also cleared for integration into third-party navigation stations.

Micromate’s planning and navigation station enables the use of a navigation workflow with CT scanners.

In Europe, Micromate was first deployed in 2022 at the St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands, and has been used in several clinical sites for any indication and procedure requiring needles or instruments from 8-21G, noted the company.
